Anderson Cooper’s talk show sinks due to industry forecast

Warner Brothers cancel Anderson Live

by Bernard-Charles

Anderson Live will not be returning for a third season reports The New York Times and Warner Brothers released this statement to the press:

We are extremely proud of Anderson and the show that he and the entire production team have produced. While we made significant changes to the format, set and produced it live in its second season, the series will not be coming back for a third season in a marketplace that has become increasingly difficult to break through. We will continue to deliver top-quality shows throughout next summer.

It’s nice that Anderson Cooper was able to have a show at least for 2 seasons…better than no show at all. Was his demeanor too poignant to be a talk show host? Was it because every waiting room had either Ellen, The View, or The Talk blasting away?

Simply, it may have been a game of sexuality. He is gay and that might have turned away efforts to watch his show. (Not mine though, lol.)

His approach was very educated and it might have been a harsh set up for guest interviews thus making the energy feel awkward for most. CNN is quite different from a talk show and this may have contributed to the decrease in ratings. There has to be a build of mass appeal present, I would think.

Since the news, Anderson did share his thoughts:

I am very proud of the work that our terrific staff has put into launching and sustaining our show for two seasons, I am grateful to Telepictures for giving me the opportunity, and I am indebted to the audience, who have responded so positively. I look forward to doing more great shows this season, and I’m sorry we won’t be continuing, but I have truly enjoyed it.

What does this mean for America’s Future Talk Show Host

Reality is that, yes the fight for successful shows by numbers is more intense, something that any Aries should not back down from, we just have to work harder and more creative. I don’t think it is too far-fetched to keep chasing my dream. I came this far and have done so much already proving my worth to people and I would think it as a failure if I did not get at least one season out this whole adventure. I think it would be actually quite thrilling just to do one season of a show to see how it all is–technically I would have made my dream come true. 😉

For whatever reason, Anderson was not a long lasting legend and I don’t think he intentionally set out to be like Regis Philbin. However, I think he is far better at being a legend in the field of hardcore journalism. He is definitely keen on psychology and the ways of people based on observation, but I don’t think it flourished eloquently enough to hook people to watch. We are living in a very picky world where recreating the created is not satisfying people anymore.

I envision my approach would be something that would trend like a boy band but keep the classiness rolling in. That’s just me.
